Where sound therapy and somatic psychotherapy come together to support nervous system regulation, deeper awareness, and emotional processing.
Sometimes, words are not enough. Our subconscious experiences and deeper wounds can show up through our breath, muscles, movement, sensations, emotions, and nervous system.
Sound-Integrated Somatic Psychotherapy brings sound therapy and somatic psychotherapy together in an immersive, individualized experience. By working with the body and the senses, it offers another pathway for exploring what you’re experiencing—especially when talking alone doesn’t seem to reach it.
What Is Somatic Psychotherapy?
Somatic psychotherapy is a mind-body approach that includes the body as part of the therapeutic process.
Rather than focusing only on what you think about an experience, somatic psychotherapy invites curiosity about what happens inside you as you experience it.
Maybe your chest tightens when you talk about setting a boundary. Your shoulders rise when you anticipate conflict. Your breathing changes when a memory surfaces. Or perhaps you notice very little at all—a sense of numbness or disconnection.
Drawing from approaches including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, we gently pay attention to sensations, breath, posture, movement, emotion, and nervous system responses as they unfold.
Rather than trying to override what your body is doing, we get curious about it.
How Sound Therapy Becomes Part of the Process
Sound can reach us in ways that words can't.
During a Sound-Integrated Somatic Psychotherapy session, therapeutic sound and vibration become part of the sensory environment in which psychotherapy takes place.
You may experience different sounds, tones, frequencies, and vibrations while being guided to notice what is happening within your body. Sound may provide an anchor for your attention, deepen awareness of physical sensations, or bring emotions or areas of tension into awareness.
There is no experience you're supposed to have. Instead, we follow your response with curiosity.
Sound Therapy Through a Nervous System Lens
Your nervous system is constantly taking in information from the world around you—and sound is part of that information.
A sudden noise can make your body tense before you've had time to think. A familiar voice can create an immediate sense of connection. A steady rhythm can draw your attention into the present moment.
Sound-Integrated Somatic Psychotherapy intentionally brings this sensory dimension into the therapy room.
Rather than trying to make your nervous system respond a certain way, sound and vibration become another avenue for noticing, exploring, and responding to what your system is communicating.
Because every nervous system is different, the experience is inherently personal and unfolds in collaboration with you.
What Happens During a Session?
Each Sound-Integrated Somatic Psychotherapy session is shaped around you and what you're bringing into the room that day.
We may begin with conversation before gradually shifting toward your internal experience—your breath, physical sensations, posture, emotions, movement, or places where you feel activated, settled, tense, open, or disconnected.
Sound and vibration are introduced alongside this exploration. At times, you may be actively engaged in conversation with your therapist. At others, there may be less talking as you turn your attention inward and experience the sound.
Your therapist stays with you throughout, helping you notice what emerges and allowing the session to move at a manageable pace.
Together, sound therapy and somatic psychotherapy create space to move beyond understanding an experience intellectually and become curious about what your body may still be carrying.
